  Children aged between 5 and 15 are mostly likely to visit, but clubs are also a place where young adults aged between 15 and 25 meet. In smaller towns and villages, sport, music or religious youth clubs usually play a role compared to cities. Otherwise, the activities in clubs generally do not differ widely from gym/sport to more cultural activities such as dance. Often, but not always, one of the goals of a "Youth Work" or "Youth School" will be to create a youth center. In Australia, these are generically referred to as "youth centres". A park in Barcelona, called "" in Catalan and "La Closa del Parc" in Spanish, is widely believed to be the very first youth center in history, opening as early as 1895. It is part of the gardens of Vic's old 13th century Benedictine abbey. Although not technically a club, the main point of the project was to remain open as long as children are on holiday, so it has also been called an ice-cream parlour. In the Czech Republic, "" is a commonly known name for a local organizational club of young people, is very similar to the youth club concept. These operated usually as autonomous clubs of Czech culture, offering a wide variety of cultural activities like music, drama. They usually were managed by the teachers of the school in which the meetingplace was located. Local "" was considered as the cornerstone of local culture; many of the finest young talents could be noticed in their musical activities, which were often broadcast on national air. However, this concept of attending a "" school did not fully tally with Soviet ideology, and Czechoslovakia was the first of the Soviet bloc countries to officially allow admitting pupils not on condition of ethnicity but collectively into the same classroom.
