Hi. Sibling rivalry was a norm but not having affection was exception in earlier times which also(along with rivalry) has become a norm nowadays. I wonder, if challenges and constant comparison or over pampering is the reason behind it. Well, what can be the practical solution to the problem?
There is a fraternal rivalry that is natural and inevitable. One of the reasons for this rivalry is the desire to possess exclusively the love and attention of the parents, so it makes sense to think that comparison and pampering can influence wanting more of that attention, especially if the parents assume a passive attitude towards this conflict. It is convenient for the child to be stimulated and valued by himself, without having the pressure of being the first or equal to the other. Comparisons are hateful especially between siblings
I believe that what can be done is to give each child his place, so that they do not have to fight for who is better, and this should include that each one has responsibilities at home. It is convenient to establish limits, help them to assimilate the respect they should have among themselves, and assume consequences if any of these agreements fail.
If the children see that each one is judged by their actions and not by the value they have for the parents, they will understand that neither is good or bad, simply that there are learnings according to their actions. We don't want to eliminate discussions entirely, brief conflicts favor socialization ; the relationship between siblings facilitates training in the socialization of aggressiveness.
I would love to know what other people think about it! it's a very interesting topic!!
