The hacktivist collective known as Anonymous has been attributed with a handful of missions that differ from the organization’s early days when black hat hackers dominated the scene.
In one of its most recent ops, the group leaked the personal information of suspected KKK members and called on people to, “expose the identities of up to 1000 Ku Klux Klan members by tomorrow.”
But even with increasingly bold actions such as standing up to the KKK and a recent proclamation that it was forming a “cyber army” armed but inexperienced hackers, a different message that appears to criticize the group was spotted by analysts.
“You should have stayed in the small underground groups where your ideas wouldn’t have the possibility of being spread to others,” a message written on Pastebin Tuesday reads. “By acting like a socialjustice warrior, using the same methods of operation Anonymous was able to grow and attract more followers, to spread this word, but instead you disrupted that chance, and brought the whole collective down to a more level point.”
As of this writing, the message has been marked “1 down, 99 to go” and is still sitting online at Pastebin under the username ‘gopiens.’
The message’s identity is unknown, but it was posted just days after Anonymous welcomed to Twitter the latest hacker of its newly-formed “cyber army,” an individual named ‘Metz Iwx.’
“He’s researched fairly deep into almost every social media known to man,” one of the group’s Twitter accounts said. “He only has two powers. Infiltrating, and learning. He has short sight, so he has to get his hands dirty.”
